The company was founded and is run by Annabel Thomas. The name, Nc'nean, comes from 'Neachneohain'​ the Queen of Spirits in Gaelic legend. It is pronounced Nc-ne-an, which sounds like Nc-knee-anne. The distillery released its first whisky in 2020. The first bottle was auctioned for a record breaking £41,000 (all proceeds went to charity) and it has been claimed for both its taste and beautiful bottle. Prior to that it released an innovative 'Botanical Spirit: beyond gin. We also welcome visitors for tours, so please do come and see us.
